Note from Jen

From Tracey's Body Master Challenge Series, HI/LO MED BALL is an interval-style cardio and strength training workout. In most circuit-style workouts, a burst of cardio is followed by strength training, then another short burst of cardio, then strength training ... repeated for "x" amount of cycles. Tracey's workout is different. I love how she does a longer-than usual block of cardio. After the warm-up, Tracey leads us through Segments 1-4 of fun and funky cardio (dance moves, kickboxing, and athletic-style choreography) for a total of about fifteen minutes. Then it's on to a medicine ball segment (I don't have a medicine ball so I used a 10-pound dumbbell, which worked perfectly). The strength moves were multi-jointed; very time efficient and effective. Shoulders, legs, biceps ... they were all worked. After that, we moved on to the last four cardio segments, then another med ball section, this time focusing on the abs. After the 4.5 minute cool-down, our hour-long workout was complete!

Tracey's cardio is highly effective; the "lo" part of "hi/lo" doesn't mean low intensity, but rather "get down low!" Even during the cardio segments you'll incorporate squats and lunges to effectively engage your quads, burning more calories and increasing not just the cardio, but also added strength.

The last cardio segment was particularly fun; it's great how Tracey lets Jill take over for some of the instruction for added variety. Tracey even modifies one of the moves; usually instructors have someone else modify, so it's great to see Tracey taking on that role. And even the credits were fun! I usually skip credits (I mean really, who actually reads them?), but the clips Tracey incorporated were a blast to watch.

Tracey Staehle's October 2008 release, HI/LO MED BALL, will work your entire body with unique med ball moves to incorporate muscle fibers you didn't even know where there! You'll build stamina, boost your metabolism, and maximize calorie burn using a 2 to 8 pound medicine ball (depending on your fitness level). Both high and low intensities are used during the combos of cardio, some dance, and some athletic moves. There are even two five-minute med ball sections to add a little something different to the workout.

Hi/Lo Med ball is easy to follow yet of a high, challenging fitness level. Cardio is intervalled with medicine ball moves for muscle strengthening. The med ball portions come at just the right time, taking your workout to a raised level, working different muscles and giving your cardio endurance a little kick.
