A brief chat about my background before I give you my impression of this workout: I've been in the fitness industry for 13 years, but it wasn't until about three years ago that I started getting into yoga. At first, I added yoga as a form of flexibility training for my fitness routine, since that aspect of my schedule was definitely lacking. However, I quickly discovered that the calming benefits of yoga go beyond the physical, so I started exploring all forms. I have a regular yoga instructor whom I turn to for the spiritual side of my routine, but for the physical, I rely on my home DVDs.

This workout has no spiritual aspects at all--it's pure workout, pure athletic. Although I've been practicing yoga for three years, I found that the routines really challenged my stamina and endurance. They're the perfect length for time-crunched days or for stretching after work (I find that after 8 to 10 hours of sitting at my computer desk, I definitely need a half hour or so of yoga before I can unwind for the evening). These workouts do just that. They're challenging, effective, and no-nonsense. A solid addition to my DVD library, for sure.

THE FLEXIBLE WARRIOR includes three 30 minute workouts:

* Warm-up: An energizing core strength sequence followed by a functional flexibility series of yoga poses to build heat and increase range of motion before your training session.

* Cross Train: Athletic yoga poses to enhance your performance and improve total body strength, endurance and balance.

* Recover: Increased flexibility reduces muscle tension and fatigue as well as your risk of injury. This restorative, yet active, stretching sequence is ideal after a race day or hard workout for a speedier recovery to get you back out there faster!

With guidance and feedback from a team of competitive triathletes, this program was designed specifically for intermediate to advanced fitness level endurance athletes who are new to yoga, or for the advanced home fitness enthusiast. The three segments can be done separately or together for a balanced total body cross training workout. A yoga mat and stretch strap are recommended.

About the instructor: Karen Dubs is a Registered Yoga Teacher and ACE Certified fitness professional with over 15 years teaching experience including top rated resort spa Canyon Ranch. She has trained a wide range of professional and recreational athletes and clients in Baltimore, MD including players from The Baltimore Ravens.
